Diamond Creek is a beautifully maintained residential and rural real estate area situated 23 kilometers north-east of Melbourne’s Central Business District. It caters for a variety of life styles with development of the area dateing back to the 1850s, but primarily being established from the post war era.
The Diamond Creek area was used for orcharding from the late 1800s to 1912 but did not grow between the 1920s and 1950s due to the demise of gold mining and orcharding.
Significant growth occurred in the 1970s which included the rise of major features such as Diamond Valley College, Diamond Creek Shopping Center, Diamond Creek Reserve and Nillumbik Park. The size of Diamond Creek is approximately 17 square kilometers and has 13 parks covering nearly 3% of the total land area.
Schools which are located in Diamond Creek include Plenty Valley Montessori School, Sacred Heart Primary, Diamond Creek Primary, Diamond Creek East Primary and as already mentioned, Diamond Valley College.
The Diamond Creek community holds a variety of shops and community centers, some of these including a Coles supermarket, Mitre 10 Home & Trade and a YMCA which provides a basketball stadium, gymnasium and a variety of group fitness classes.
